Rejuvenate your appearance with a fat transfer at our Caringbah and Bankstown practices.
Plump cheeks and natural smooth contours of the face are associated with a youthful appearance. But as we age, these can drop down to form jowls, or the face can sag after considerable weight loss.
To restore vitality to the face and reshape the face to a more full and youthful appearance, a fat transfer is an ideal procedure. Fat is removed from somewhere else on the body, typically the abdomen, hips or buttocks, then washed and prepared before being injected into areas of the face that require filling.
Fat transfers can also be used to fill the hands and elbows for a smoother appearance, as well as correcting divots around scar tissue in some circumstances.

Frequently asked questions
- How long does a fat transfer take?
A fat transfer procedure typically takes two to three hours. This includes fat being removed from another location on the body, before being suitably prepared and then used to fill another area, typically the face, but also buttocks, hands or elbows.
- How soon can I return to work and exercise after a fat transfer?
The recovery period for a fat transfer depends on the area being treated. The time away from work is typically three to seven days, with treatment of the face being at the longer end of the recovery period due to swelling.
- How long will the benefits of a dermal filler last?
Results from a fat transfer usually last from five to ten years. It is important to note that there is a higher rate of failure with smokers, so at Lavida Cosmetic Medicine we recommend smokers do not have this procedure.
- What costs can I expect?
We will discuss procedure costs during your free consultation and make sure you are fully aware of the details of our fee structure.
